Halong bay is a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a popular travel destination, in Quảng Ninh
Province, Vietnam.It attract tourists by the bay's calm water and the thousands
of limestone mountains dotting the seascape.Viewed from above, Halong Bay resembles a
geographic work of art. It is also a region of highly-concentrated biological
diversity with many ecosystems of salt water-flooded forests, coral reefs, and
tropical forests featuring thousands of species of animal and plant life.
Halong Bay Sea

Dau Be Island
It is 500 meters from Hang Trai Island to the east, and 28 kilometers from the Bai
Chay Tourist Wharf. It has an area of 22, 86 square meters, and its highest
peak reaches 139 meters. When speaking of the island, it is impossible not
mention to Ba Ham Lake, a famous spot which people had known long time ago. Ba
Ham Lake is a system consisting of three major ocean basins connected through a
meandering narrow cave.
Inside the cave, stalactites hang down from the ceiling

Bai tu long
bay:
Bai Tu Long Bay comprises hundreds of islands in both big and small sizes.
They belong to two types: lime-stone islands and schist islands. The islands of
Bai Tu Long are the result of tectonic process over 300 million years. Many of
them are well-known tourism islands such as Quan Lan Island, Minh Chau Island,
Ngoc Vung Island, and The Vang Island. Karst corrosion process and weathering
created several amazing caves, especially Quan Cave (Navy Cave).Bai Tu Long Bay
has a rich biodiversity with typical ecosystems: mangrove ecosystem, coral reef
ecosystem, ecosystem of tropical forests. It is home to various species of
flora and fauna. There are 780 species of flora in Bai Tu Long Bay and 21
species among them are included in the list of Vietnam’s Red Data Book.
Scientists also found 931 species of aquatic animals there. In 2001, Bai Tu
Long National Park was established with the area of 14 ha in order to preserve
biodiversity in this region.
Cong do island
Located in the southeast of Ha Long Bay, 25km off from Bai Chay cruise port,
Cong Do Island is inside Bai Tu Long Bay. Cong Do Island is the paradise of
holiday. On the island, tourists can have trekking up to the hill and enjoy a
panoramic view at the hilltop to charming scenery on Halong bay. It’s also an
ideal place for kayaking to discover the hidden lagoons on the island and its bio-diversity.

Ngoc vung
island
Ngoc Vung Island also known as Gem Island is a beautiful island
located between two small rocks and islands is Net Rock and Phoenix rock in Van
Don island district. Looking from above, Ngoc Vung island is beautiful like
velvet shawl, with white flashing lights floating on the water.Ngoc Vung island
commune belongs to Van Don district, is a land of rich history, it preserves
many vestiges of the ancient commercial port of Van Don, Citadel of Mac
Dynasty. On Ngoc Vung Island, tourists will have chance to enter the enchanted
world of mountain and beach; enjoy quiet and peaceful atmosphere there.

island:
Soi Sim is a small island located 12km west of Halong City.The island has special geological structure
with two-thirds covered by feralit soil and red weathered soil. The island has

southeast and northwest. Coming to Soi Sim Island, tourists will be impressed
by peaceful ambiance and natural beauty of green primeval forest and blue sea.
Tuan chau
island:
Tuan Chau Island is a newly established tourism center of Ha Long City,
which is only 8 kilometers away from downtown Ha Long. In Tuan Chau, tourists

parachute, sea fishing, kayaking, mountain climbing, camping, or lavish

Fighting cocks:
Fighting cocks is located at the southwestern Halong Bay, about 5 kilometers from Bai Chay
tourist wharf. The islet is about 10 meters high above the sea level. It has
the shape of a cock couple rising from the blue sea
Lan ha bay:
Located
to the south of Halong Bay and east of Cat Ba Island, Lan Ha Bay covers an area
of more than 7,000 ha of which 5,400 ha is under the management of Cat Ba
National Park. Lan Ha Bay has about 400 large and small islands covered with
green trees and vegetation and 139 beautiful and clean beaches with white sand.
Gentle waves and calm sea make this a perfect place for swimming
Cat Ba island
Cat Ba island is located in Lan Ha Bay and belong to Cat Ba Archipelago of Cat Hai district,
Hai Phong city. It is about 30 miles away from Hai Phong city to the east .
With over 86 square miles, Cat Ba island is the biggest island of 1,969 islands
in UNESCO Natural Heritage Site Halong bay. It is about 88 feet above sea
level.come here visitors can discover many karst caves created by marine transgression
such as trung trang cave, quan y cave,Hung Son Cave, Phu Long cave( So-called
Cai Vieng Cave). The scenery of Cat Ba island is created by beautiful white
sand beaches ( Cat Co 1 Beach, Cat Co 2 Beach), Coral reefs, Lagoons and
Mangroves With great living conditions of geographic and climate, Cat Ba island
is home to over 1.400 species of flora and fauna. Many of them are rare species
listed in Vietnam’s Red Data Book and IUCN red list of threatened species Due
to protecting all of species and reserving them, The Cat Ba National Park was
founded in 1986. The Park covers an area of 67 square miles on land and 34
square miles on the sea. Cat Ba National Park is the first park in Vietnam that
gets both ecosystem on land and aquatic ecosystem. In the year of 2004, the
UNESCO recognized Cat Ba Archipelago and Cat Ba Island as a UNESCO Man and
Biosphere Reserve.
Toad Islet:
Toad islet is
situated about 12 kilometers from Bai Chay tourist wharf to the Southeast of
Halong Bay. It's about 9 meters high above the sea level.
Dau Nguoi Islet
Human head shaped Islet is situated in the south of the island range of Bo
Hon, Halong Bay, about 13 kilometers far from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf. It lies
near Luon Grotto, Sung Sot Island and Ti Top Island.
Dinh Huong Islet
Incense Burner Islet is so-called Lu Huong Islet. It's located in the
southwest of Dau Go Island (about 6 kilometers from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf,
Halong). The islet is in the shape of an incense burner in the middle of the
sea. In the majestic setting of sea and islands, Dinh Huong Islet seems like a
holy symbol dedicated to national heroes who died to protect the country.
Bo hon
island:
When speaking of the beautiful islands of Ha Long Bay, one cannot forget
Bo Hon (Soap-Berry Tree) Island, not only because of its splendid scenery, but
also because it is one of the largest islands in the area. Bo Hon Island is
most famous for the grotto system which hides inside it, as there are many
grottoes located here, such as the Surprise, Luồn, Virgin and Male grottoes.
There is also a concentration of tall mountains with vertical cliffs that
appear like citadel walls and are reflected in beautiful color on the sea.
Mat Quy Islet
It is
about 30-35 meters above the sea level. It’s considered as a sculptural
masterpiece of the Creator in the vast expanse of water. Looking from a far,
it’s easy to imagine the islet is a fossilized head of a monster. The monster
head has a big nose on a distorted face.
Quan lan island:
Quan Lan Island is located in Van Don District, about 45 kilometers far to the
northeast of Halong Bay. The island belongs to the territory of Bai Tu Long
Bay.It
has untouched charming scenery with long white sand beach and green pine
forest. The island is also the residence of many aquatic species such as squid,
butterfish, mackerel, sea cucumbers, shrimp, etc.Come here, tourists
can gaze and swim at one of the most beautiful beaches of Halong bay; enjoy
quiet and refreshing atmosphere as well as delicious seafood from local fresh
sea products.
Halong Bay Grotto & Cave System
Bo Nau Cave
Bo
Nau Cave (Pelican Cave) is located on the southwestern Halong Bay. It's about
13 kilometers far from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf and 2-3 kilometers to the
southeast of Trong Mai Isle It’s in the shape of arch and has many stalactites
falling down from the ceiling
Dau go cave
Dau
Go Cave is on Driftwood Island. Seen from afar, the entrance to the grotto
appears to be blue, and has a shape similar to that of a jellyfish. After 90
steps up the island, the entrance is reached. The ceiling of the grotto is
about 25 m high. Hundreds of stalactites falling down from the roof of the
grotto look like a waterfall.
Trinh Nu Grotto
Virgin Grotto is situated on Bo Hon Island, the same location with Luon Cave
and Sung Sot Cave (Surprise Cave). It's about 15 kilometers from Bai Chay
Tourist Wharf to the south. Trinh Nu Grotto has three chambers in total. The
tallest ceiling is about 4 meters high. The biggest chamber is the third with
the size of 60 meters long, 20 meters wide. Inside the grotto are many
stalagmites and stalactites in various living forms of people and animals.
The entrance of
the cave measures 25m high above sea level. The inside of the cave is segmented
into small chambers. As soon as visitors enter the cave they will be greeted by
stunning stalactites and stalagmites that take on various shapes and sizes.
Sunshine beaming through the cave creates a mysterious atmosphere inside.
Me Cung Grotto
Bewitching Grotto is situated on Lom Bo Island, about 2 kilometers far from
Ti Top Island to the southwest. The mouth of Me Cung Cave is on the height of
25 meters above the sea level.Beside the mystical beauty of the cave inside, Me
Cung is also an important archaeological relic. The ground of the cave is made
up of 1.2m of fossilized shells. Archaeologists have discovered an animal’s
skeleton and evidence of a pre-Ha Long culture that dates back to 7,000 to
10,000 years ago inside the cave
Sung Sot Cave
Situated in the
center of the World Heritage- Ha Long bay, Sung Sot cave is on Bo Hon
Island,surrounded by Ti Top beach- Bo Nau- Me Cungand Luon cave. It was named
“Grotte des surprises” by French. Sung Sot Cave is a large cave with the size of
12.200 square meters. The cave has three compartments and high ceiling with
lots of stalactites in various shapes. The ceiling’s maximal height is 30
meters. In the middle, there is a giant and beautiful stalactite pillar
connecting the cave’s ground up to the roof.The mouth of
Sung Sot Cave is about 25 meters above the sea level. The most attractive thing
is that there are numerous stalactites with bizarre shapes on the ceiling of
the cave. In addition, at the deepest point of this chamber a “royal garden”
appears with a clear pond and a fascinating landscape of small mountains. Many
birds and plants (benjamin figs, cycads and centenary banyan trees) can be seen
here. Sung Sot Cave is typical for karst caves on Halong Bay and has high
scientific value in the field of geology
Ho Dong Tien
Fairy Lake Cave is one of the most beautiful caves on Halong Bay. The Cave
can be divided into three chambers and the way connecting them is very narrow
that is big enough for only one person to go through at a time. It’s very dark
in the middle of the cave so you need to bring torches in order to discover the
cave and watch beautiful stalagmites and stalactites which are everywhere and
make the cave become more special. Besides, we can see limestone lofts hanging
on the wall, which are relics of geolical history of Halong Bay
Luon Cave
It is
about 60 meters long and 4 meters wide. Height of the ceiling ranges from 2.5 –
4 meters up on tidal level. Therefore, it only can be accessed by small boat or
kayak.
Hanh cave is
located at the foot of Quang Hanh Lime-stone Mountain, about 20 kilometers far
from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf. Hanh Cave is not only the most beautiful but also
the longest cave in Halong.
Hanh Cave has
the length of 1.300 meters, runs along lime-stone mountain range of Quang Hanh.
This is a low cave so if you want to visit the cave, you have to wait until low
tide and then hire a boat. Visiting the cave is only for those who love
adventure. Before entering the cave, you must carry torches or flashlight and
remember to go out of the cave before the tide rising.Inside the cave,
there is a temple which called Tam Co temple (Three Girls temple). There are
rumors that 3 beautiful virgins were get lost in the cave and died here. Thus,
local people built this temple in order to comfort their soul.
The Tam Cung Grotto
Three-palace Grotto is situated in the centre of Ha Long Bay, 5 km
from Sung Sôt Grotto to the northeast. The grotto itself is divided into three
parts; after threading the stone cracks, you find the first chamber. Many
beautiful forms can be garnered from the rocky shapes.
Continuing on to
the second chamber, the bumpy way leads to a spring with fresh water. The last
room contains further incredible stone depictions.
Thien Cung
Grotto (Heavenly Cave)
Thien Cung grotto is situated on Dau Go Island (Wooden Stakes Island) in
the southwestern Halong Bay and about 4 kilometers from tourism wharf. Thien
Cung Grotto is at the height of 25 meters above the sea level. Visiting the
grotto, tourists will feel like visiting an art museum with variety of
sophisticated statues and reliefs. In the center of the grotto, there are four
big pillars propping against the roof.
Halong Bay Floating Villages
Floating village
is a unique cultural feature of Halong Bay and also home to the original
inhabitants of Halong with a long-lasting tradition. . Each
fishing village has about 30 – 50 families with the population of around 200 –
600 people.
The floating
village is home to many generations and many of the residents never leave, but
grow up and grow old in this unique world where they are born into. Visiting
floating villages, tourists will have an insight into peaceful daily life of
fishermen in the middle of Halong Bay
